From fin-tech & D2C, to entrepreneurship & investing, Kaleidoscope is Klub's take on the how's and why's of the finance, investment, & D2C worlds.

“Getting featured on Shark Tank India 2 is my formal degree”, said 18-year-old entrepreneur Shreyaan Daga, co-founder of ed-tech startup OLL and one of the youngest pitchers on the 2nd season of Shark Tank India. Week 4 was all about the obvious entrepreneurial surge displayed by young entrepreneurs from the edges of India. More than 65 startups have already made pitches to sharks so far, while some of them received funding & many that did not.

Key takeaways from this week’s episodes are:

  • Solving problems creatively gets expensive: Founders Neha Bajaj and Karen Saldanha wanted the sharks to ‘Dabble’ with their child-safe, toxin-free and development-friendly art products. Having inculcated ~10 products like colours, glue, finger paints, etc. in a bootstrapped business made it challenging for the brand to stabilise the price & reach profitability.
  • Service industry shows promise beyond the organised portfolio: The tech-enabled platform of Broomees, which brands itself as "India's trusted homemakers," enables users to book chefs, babysitters, and housekeepers. Children's education, interest-free loans, feminine hygiene supplies, and the chance to make three times as much money are other perks provided to the help staff.
  • Hair care segment remains a favorite: The pitch for a customised remedy to hair difficulties experienced by various hair types is presented by Ayush Varma's brand "Ravel." Ayush wants people to start using his products so they can have hassle-free hair care thanks to a blend that is sulphate and paraben-free. Anupam is drawn to this model, and unsurprisingly, they were able to strike a deal with him.
